Trip Planner: Europe / Ireland / Province of Leinster / County Dublin / Dublin / War Memorial Gardens
These gardens are one of the most famous memorial gardens in Europe. They are dedicated to the memory of 49,400 Irish soldiers who died in the 1914 – 1918 war. The names of all the soldiers are contained in the beautifully illustrated Harry Clarke manuscripts in the granite bookrooms in the gardens. To visit War Memorial Gardens on your trip to Dublin, use our Dublin trip itinerary site.
These gardens are not only a place of remembrance but are also of great architectural interest and beauty. They are one of four gardens in this country designed by the famous architect Sir Edwin Lutyens (1869-1944) (the others being Heywood Gardens, Lambay Island, and those in Howth Castle). Sunken rose gardens, herbaceous borders and extensive tree planting make for an enjoyable visit to the gardens in any season.

This place is very well maintained, green all around, beautiful symmetrical flower gardens with the monuments in between them. Breathtaking and serene. Fantastic getaway into mother nature's arms in the middle of the city. Constantly evolving - the new pollinator spots are lovely and well placed.
Great Park. Very well kept. No toilet or cafe and only one bin unfortunately.. Edit - there are now 2 bins! They're pretty much next to eachother but progress is progress. Also the picnic benches were removed while they widened the path by the river and haven't been replaced so there's not much sunny seating.
