The very first attraction you spot when you visit Dublin will likely be The Spire, a huge, stainless-steel monument reaching 121.2 m (398 ft) in height. Ian Ritchie Architects' simple and elegant monument looks like someone stuck a giant pin in the city. Although the monument seems to disappear in the sky at dusk, lights at the bottom and top of the pin are illuminated at night. The spire does not have an observation deck, but visitors can snap great pictures from O'Connell Street. A visit to The Spire represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Dublin trip planner to plot your vacation.

This monument has probably some meaning, but as an esthetic object, you can just skip it and go somewhere else. Being int he city center, I would say that you probably can't avoid it.
