Create an itinerary including Medieval City
One of Europe's best-preserved medieval towns, Medieval City serves as a blend of Gothic and Ottoman architectural styles, seemingly frozen in time centuries ago. The historical district is both a home to over 6,000 permanent residents and Rhodes' major tourist attraction, designated as a World Heritage Site. The town's medieval walls enclose Gothic military fortifications and castles constructed by the Knights of Saint John, as well as public baths and mansions erected by the island's Ottoman rulers. A compact area where two distinct cultures met, fought, and built, the old town also contains many well-preserved churches and mosques. Make the most of your visit by arranging for a guided walking tour. Using our custom trip planner, Rhodes Town attractions like Medieval City can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Just love The Old Town, the mix of medieval architecture and commercial tourism is great. Love the little passageways- there's always something new to find. Plenty of Tavernas, some loud, many peaceful in shade, like Socrates Garden - a hidden gem. The sense of history within the medieval buildings is always strong. I've been to Rhodes Island several times, but never tire of my regular visits to Rhodes Town, both old and new.
  • Beautiful. So much character. Plenty to see and do around the area. Not short of places for food and drink. Plenty of jewelry shops, cloths shops, leather goods. An absolute must see if you visit the island! You won't be disappointed. One word of advice, don't be hustled into a restaurant go to the ones that don't ask you to join them but always ask for the price menu.
