Allegedly the place where the mythical encounter between Odysseus and Nausicaa took place, Paleokastritsa Beach sits lapped by the deep blue Ionian Sea and ringed by lush vegetation. A large rugged rock, considered by many locals to be Odysseus' petrified ship, sticks out of the water just off the coastline. One side of this rock curves like an extended sail of an ancient galley, attracting curious divers to investigate what lies below the surface of the water. Swim, snorkel, or bask on the sand, but also leave a little time to visit a 13th century monastery located on the rocky hill just above the beach.
