Sarakina Gorges, Mirtos

Hike through narrow Sarakina Gorges, featuring rich vegetation, colorful stone walls, a gurgling river, and several ponds ideal for a cooling dip. The gorge is 1.5 km (0.9 mi) long, but just 3 m (10 ft) wide at its narrowest point, with walls rising up to 150 m (492 ft). Legend has it that a giant who lived in the area got thirsty and when he bent down to drink from the river, his beard cut through the mountains and created the canyon. Though the hike is not extremely challenging, it still includes a lot of time walking through the stream and over slippery rocks.
