Since 2004.. our volunteer family of Cretan/ New Zealand blood run a donkey sanctuary on the remote & rugged South Coast of the Island of Crete.. dedicated to helping working, abandoned, sick and unwanted donkeys. No donkey will ever be turned away, each will be cared for and loved for the remainder of their life.. we also offer care our and support to

donkey owners in surrouding villages and their hard working often very neglected donkeys through our Outreach Team visits by GAWF & GAWG with farriers and dentist.

  • Were there today. The donkeys are so cute. Can not imagine why so many people are so cruel. Lucky for those donkeys to have a place like this now. You people at this sanctuary do a really great job, thank you!
  • The couple who run the sanctuary know what they're doing and are very welcoming, and my time here was well spent. You walk around the big compound with donkeys (including a sweet 23 day old silver foal), geese, peacocks and goats. The donkeys are all very friendly and I especially took to an old blind guy who deeply appreciated a good scratch. Visit, enjoy getting to know an animal on whose back our civilisation was built and that has an unfortunate reputation these days.
