  • Very quiet and peaceful but somehow not as welcoming as it could be. The main church was locked up this visit. I think it would be easy and better if the monastery made a bit more of an effort to explain its purpose and place in history past, present and future. The cave is accessible from the lower church and is open. In the cave there is lots of graffiti on the walls which detracts from the experience somehow. It is very nice to have running water and toilets available if needed. I think there used to be ostriches here. I wonder what happened to them? We knew to dress modestly but the nuns were quick to chase down those who did not. It shuts for lunch.
  • Beautiful buildings and interior of monastery but church closed even though supposed to be open, nothing in the grounds to look at and was told to cover up even though we had longer tops on covering shoulders and covered knees, obviously quite clearly one rule for one and one rule for others as other people were entering without covering up at all. Masks have to be worn unfortunately but clearly doesn't apply to some and the staff inside and others don't clearly listen to their own rules either.
