The largest and oldest of the monasteries in Meteora, Monastery of the Great Meteoron gives insight into the former monastic way of life. The original, much smaller monastery was established about 1340 by monk St. Athanasios and was added on to St. Iosaph later. Visit the kitchen, which contains the original bread oven and soup hearth, both hundreds of years old. Look around the carpenter's workshop and cellar to get an idea of daily life for the monks who once lived here. Outside, you'll find the sacristy, where the skulls and bones of former inhabitants are gathered. • Amazing place. Nature wonder! Huge historical moment together with natural fantastic pleasure. You are able to enjoy each minut been there. Place is recommended for all population all around the world.
  • All the meteors are great to see around to walk around, to drive around. To enter not really - lack of any good your or interesting exhibits. They really history and piece of Greece but the temperature lack of any organization is not a thing which tourists like. ADDITIONALY: entry any walk around is not handicap friendly, there is no help or any instructions for disabled people- which looks like a standard in Greece
