Criss-crossed by the canals of the River Lauch, Little Venice formerly served as the butcher's, tanner's, and fisherman's quarter. Originally a rural wine-producing community, commercial gardeners and fishermen inhabited the canal area, which is now the city center of the small town. You can charter a romantic boat to float around the canals and gain a picturesque perspective of the half-timbered houses. A nice way to see a very small portion of the older town. Only one short canal with restaurants and homes along the banks. Quite relaxing.

Very picturesque and full of bars and eating places. Go on the boat trip to see a bit more. Loads of fish in the water!

Colmar is one of the most beautiful cities on the German-French border. It is very worthwhile to take the small train that travels between the important sites in the city plus explanations in 15 languages. Then you should just walk around the city streets and enjoy its stunning beauty

Not sure why to compare it with Venice.... This is because both the places are very unique in there on way.... This place is so beautiful with the housing architecture (unique to this region) along the small canal... I feel there could be 2 different period to visit. 1. During Christmas ... Where this place is Litten up so magnificently that you want to spent hours together with or without your partner to enjoy. 2. During the Off season, yeah Off season so that you can be at your disposal to search scan each and every part of this beautiful architecture which is not possible during the peak season. I wonder how beautiful this would be during Spring? When talking with locals I came to know that most of the unique houses are brought over by corporates ( restaurant + boutique etc) as the maintenance of these houses by individual would be very expensive. Must Visit for every one who loves to explore a unique destination.
