Frederiksborg Castle
Head to Frederiksborg Castle to explore the lavish rooms and lush gardens of past Danish royalty, now transformed into the area's national history museum. The oldest parts of the castle were built by Frederick II in 1560, but the majority of what remains today was constructed by Christian IV in the early 1600s. Walk the grounds of the largest Renaissance palace in Scandinavia to see fountains, sculptures, hedges, and a variety of flowers and other foliage. The castle is in the middle of Palace Lake and stretches across three small islands. Check out the large Baroque chapel, the lavishly decorated rooms, the Great Hall and Throne Room, and the contemporary Danish art collection housed inside. A small cafe in the garden is an ideal place to sit down and grab a coffee while taking in great views of the palace. Plan your visit to Frederiksborg Castle and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Hillerod trip planner.

Lovely location. Beautiful castle. Lots of history. A must see. Only problem is that parking very limited. You had to leave your pram at door and take theirs.

The pride of North Zealand. The biggest and most beautiful renaissance castle in northern Europe. It is as beautiful on the outside as inside. There is a beautiful garden behind the castle, which has won an award. The church has the oldest working organ in the world. Highly recommendable if you are in North Zealand.

This castle is a really worth to pay a visit. The building is nice to see. But there is also much to see about the history of Denmark. Many paintings and furniture. Too much to see in one day. You can visit the park as well this is for free.
