At Pinkas Synagogue Pinkasova synagoga, see the moving exhibit of drawings and paintings Jewish orphans created in the ghetto, while they were awaiting transportation to the Auschwitz gas chambers. Aaron M. Horowitz built the synagogue in 1535 between his house and the 15th-century cemetery. The synagogue was turned into a memorial in 1958, but the communists closed it and removed the names of the Holocaust victims in 1967. After the fall of Communism, the 77,297 names were rewritten on every inch of the interior stone walls. The most prominent person buried in the cemetery is the great religious 17th-century scholar Rabbi Loew, who is associated with the legend of the Golem. An excellent museum in a beautiful synagogue. There was a line to get tickets but someone stopped us and directed us to the IRC around the corner which had no line. We bought a multi-site ticket...

Of all the sites included under the Jewish Museum ticket, Pinkas Synagogue was my favourite. Located right next to the Cemetery, the rooms and walls with names of those who have died in the Holocaust is substantial, and incredibly moving. One of my favourite parts was the exhibit upstairs with art from children depicting experiences in the ghetto and WWII. Just haunting. Very glad we visited.

Fascinating place, with a really thought provoking exhibit regarding the holocaust. The cemetery was also beautiful. Well worth the visit - men be advised you will be required to wear a jewish cap in the synagogue and cemetery.
