Villa Tugendhat testifies to the birth of modern housing and the tragic fate of its residents. This World Heritage Site and its period furnishings were designed in the 1920s by modern architect Mies van der Rohe as an example of the International style. During World War II, the Gestapo confiscated the villa from its owners, a Jewish trading family. After the war, it was appropriated by the Czechoslovak state. Set on a slope, the threes-story building, which looks like a single-story structure from the street, offers a broad view over the town's historical center. Look for the elegant onyx wall in the living area of the middle floor; it changes color depending on lighting. The story of the villa and its residents inspired writer Simon Mawer's highly acclaimed novel "The Glass Room." Beautiful place. I loved the design and the tour was very interesting. I really enjoyed the visit and I would recommend, although getting the tickets is hard as they get sold out very quick.

We visited only the garden because visiting of the villa was completely sold out. But even from the outside it is impressive and beautiful.

The villa is one of the top attractions in Brno. The tour had a good balance of stories, historical information and details about architecture and art. We had a really nice guide and still can't believe this place was built in the 1920s! Make sure to book your place well in advance!

Photo is view from the upstairs balcony. Impressive! Worth a visit. Minimalist architecture and huge house. Personally a little impersonal, gave me a sense of agoraphobia.
