Create an itinerary including Playa Avellana
Surfers will want to go off the beaten path and head to Playa Avellana, a laid-back white sand beach with world-class waves up to 5.5 m (18 ft) tall. Locally known as "Little Hawaii" the beach is popular with surfers of all skill levels who flock to the secluded stretch of sand at high tide. Because of the strong currents swimming not recommended, but the beach is good for lounging. Hang out at the iconic bar and restaurant hidden in the thick shade of palm trees, where a resident pig named Lola will welcome you. • What a nice beach. Great restaurants on the beach and mostly locals. Not too crowded despite the holiday.

  • I loved my experience at this beach. Not too crowded, a ton of different types of waves, some of them long. Great places to eat and access the beach. Food and drinks are able access.
  • Truly a beautiful area. It has a quaint feel and with Lola's close by you can have great food while enjoying a lovely beach. I would recommend using a SUV at a minimum to get there as the dirt roads can at times require a high ground clearance to arrive. There are several places to choose from in various budgets should you want to stay in the area. Enjoy!
