This was a very cool hike! We were able to see a baby yellow eyelash pit viper, we saw the lava rock fields (wow!!!!) amazing volcano and lake Arenal views and enjoyed and great hike! Definitely...

Yes the hike is very nice and you do get some nice views of the volcano, however, it is not worth the entry cost. You can get just as nice views while driving around the lake or from La Fortuna. I've never paid that much to do a 6km hike with no unique views. You can see the volcano just as well from many different locations. The new observatory area is nice for sure but for $20 US each it was not worth the cost.

We had a great hike Jan. 6, 2022. Started at 8:30 and took our time with lots of photos. It only rained once. The views are incredible and the hike is mostly shaded. The trail is excellent but rocky. I recommend hiking boots if you brought them. We saw many birds, butterflies, and howler monkeys. The volcano had cloud cover as it does most of the time.
