Art House, Monteverde

A great place to find authentic local arts and crafts. Beautiful property - I recommending exploring the short trails.

This is a neat art store in Monteverde. Prices are very high, even for countries with higher cost of living, and a lot of the non-unique items for sale are available elsewhere in town for much less (CEMA is one place with better prices on wooden bowls, for example). Wanting to support local art, we negotiated a 10% discount on a wooden statue that cost several hundred US dollars. When we got home, we noticed we were charged the original price in USD; the negotiated price was not honored. I feel this was unfair and this is reflected in my star rating. The prices are in USD on the stickers, but the machine and your receipt is in Costa Rican Colones. We trusted the honesty of the person helping us, but we should have double-checked the price. Please check your prices before leaving the store.
