Create an itinerary including Carara National Park
Explore Carara National Park, a wildlife haven due to its transition between dry and wet rainforest. A popular hiking spot in close proximity to San Jose, the national park bears the name of one of its most prominent residents, the American crocodile. Walking along the Tarcoles river, you might see a few of these crocs, which can grow up to 6 m (20 ft) in length. Birdwatchers flock here to observe the abundance of avian life, including one of the largest scarlet macaw communities in Costa Rica. Hike through the dense rainforest for the chance to spot deer, kinkajous, frogs, water birds, and many species of monkeys. Put Carara National Park and other Carara attractions into our Carara journey maker, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • One can only access a small part of the park. I'd recommend not using a guide& bringing your own binoculars. Go early in the morning

  • This national park is enormous, and very little of it is accessible. No night tours offered. We visited @ its opening at 07:00 in March 2022 on a private, guided tour. Due to this being dense...

  • Great little hike through the jungle, if you go early enough it’s like you have the trail to yourself. Bring binoculars to help you spot the birds. Enjoy the playful monkeys. The spider monkeys can get a bit playful and shake the branches.
  • We had a fun time hiking through the park ourselves. It has 2 parts with each part having different animals so make sure to check out both!
