Create an itinerary including Sun Yatsen Mausoleum (Zhongshan Ling)
Perched atop a giant staircase, Sun Yatsen Mausoleum (Zhongshan Ling) pays tribute to a hugely influential figure in the founding of modern China. Start in the main square below the staircase and head up the slope through the towering ceremonial arch. Climb the 400 steps to reach the mausoleum itself, an imposing marble structure topped with decorative blue tiles. Admire the tile work of the crypt ceiling, and note the white sun on a blue background, the symbol of Sun Yatsen's Kuomintang Party. Check out the inscriptions and tablets within the inner chambers of the structure--strangely enough, Yatsen received honors from both his former nationalist party and the communist government. Don't miss the actual tomb, a copper sarcophagus topped by a statue of the leader. Plan my Nanjing trip by asking Inspirock to come up with tips and suggestions.

  • We actually hiked all the way from purple mountain peak to this mausoleum; about a 2km hike. Interesting hike. This mausoleum is beautiful. No photography allowed inside the mausoleum but you can...

  • This memorial, which is spectacular to visit and experience is one of the key tourist attractions of the city. The place can be accessed through a walkway, albeit great scenery on both sides. The place can get really crowded and hence it is advisable to beat the rush by visiting the place as it opens. Be wary of the fact none speak English here.
  • If you are not a Chinese citizen you need to report to the office and schedule a time and buy a ticket. Don’t make the mistake of walking up to the turnstiles as barely anyone speaks English. Fantastic place to visit but please show respect of this historical place.
