Vijećnica
Vijećnica serves as a symbol of the city and is the most representative building from the Austro-Hungarian period that bears witness to the city's historical dramas. It was built between 1892 and 1894 in a pseudo-Moorish style--a blend of Orient and Occident, as the city itself. The most notable feature of its interior is the six-angled hall topped with the glass dome. Notice the painted decorations in the main stairway and the stained-glass window ornamented with floral patterns under the dome. The hall burned down in 1992, and it was officially re-opened after restoration on May 9, 2014. It has housed the National and University Library since 1949.
