Built entirely from wood, Svrzo House represents an example of an old Ottoman house, excellently preserved and open for self-guided tours. Dating back to the 18th century, the site was home to a wealthy urban family, and it featured separate living quarters for men, women, and servants. You'll see two defined parts of the household--one for the family, and one intended for hosting guests and entertaining. Learn about the Ottoman lifestyle and see typical home decor from the era. Observe the living room's low semi-quadrate seating area, which was the social norm for urban Turkish houses. A beautiful property which offers a highly personal and intimate insight into Sarajevo’s history. The house is beautifully preserved and has a real sense of atmosphere. I was also lucky to have a tour from Edo whose knowledge is prodigious and who brought the whole experience alive. I would give five stars to him alone! Highly recommended.
