Climb to the top of Uhrturm, the medieval clock tower offering a panoramic view of the city. Originally built as a medieval defense tower, the city paid Napoleon a ransom in 1809 to keep it from being destroyed when the other fortifications on the hill overlooking the city were conquered. The clock is unique in that the large hand shows the hour and the small one minutes. The small hand was added much later since the large one could be seen from the town at the bottom of the hill. Those with mobility challenges should take the tram or elevator to the top of the tower. A visit to Uhrturm represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Graz online travel route planner to plot your vacation.

There are a lot of steps on the way to the top here but the views over the city and the surrounding countryside make the effort worthwhile. You have panoramic views here and the grounds at the top...

Worth the visit! Beautiful clock with outstanding features (minutes hand is shorter, hours time is longer) and a gorgeous view of the city. The climb is a little difficult but there is an elevator, and the tunnel leading to it is quite interesting. There is a lovely restaurant up there as well.
Thou the clock tower itself is not so intersting the view from here is amazing over the city of Graz. Not to bad walk to get here. I recommend to take the road on the east side going up to the tower and the the use the stairs on the south west to get down. Don't miss the restaurant on top to get some refreshments before heading back down.
