While visiting Sydney Harbour, swing by Mrs Macquarie's Chair for a picture-postcard view of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. To get a good spot, you may have to compete with numerous wedding couples, who prefer this exposed sandstone rock cut into the shape of a bench to almost any other location in the city for their official wedding photographs. Convicts hand-carved the rock back in 1810, at the request of Governor Macquarie's wife (hence the name). Lore has it that she used to sit on the rock and watch for ships from Great Britain, enjoying the panoramic view of the harbor for hours on end. Two centuries later, you can do the same. Put Mrs Macquarie's Chair on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Sydney online attractions planner.

The chair is a bench carved out of the sandstone in the 1800’s. It was her favourite spot to look out upon the harbour. Now part of the Botanic Gardens, it still provides an attraction to tourists...

I was over shopping and needed a break, so I left everyone in the city and made the round trip walk from Circular Key to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, so glad I did. Been to Sydney many times and walked...

Beautiful site to stay for more than two hours. We are able to enjoy the gorgeous view of Sydney Harbour. Most surprisingly, the surroundings haven't changed much in the past nine years, which contains precious memories of the land.

Was an okay place. Save your money and go to Bradley park for NYE, the spots weren’t good, they were moving people from the rocks all day and then after 8pm stopped so people ended up with a better spot and blocking the view. They also had the rule to someone was not allowed to leave once they came into the park which I found to be a bad rule, as we showed up early just to check the area and found out we could not leave. They did not have much food choices (just 3 trucks) No kids activities. When advertised online it gave the impression of a sort of street van festival with NYE fireworks. If you were to come to the area as a normal it’s beautiful and clean.
