Christ Church Cathedral, Newcastle

A well-preserved piece of Newcastle history, Christ Church Cathedral is surrounded by lush gardens and overlooks the ocean. Designed in the Gothic Revival style and originally planned to include a central tower and spire over the central crossing, the cathedral was completed in 1902 without either of those features finished (the tower was only added in 1979). Stop by for daily mass or visit the cathedral’s gift shop, which sells a wide range of handmade souvenirs and devotional items. The shop is located at the entrance into the cathedral and offers hand-stitched bookmarks, colorful wooden crosses, rosary beads, jewelry, and a variety of greeting and prayer cards.
