It’s all about taste at historic Prahran Market, one of Melbourne’s finest and most popular fresh food markets. Located in the same location for over 125 years, the market features a number of trendy cafés and a variety of stalls and shops selling fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, and deli products. Known locally as "the food lover's market" because of the quality and range of foods on sale, the market also offers specialty and hard-to-find items, such as exotic cheeses, game, and heritage varieties of regional fruits and vegetables, grown by local farmers. This is the only market in the city with its own square, which often hosts cultural performances and includes a children’s playground. Put Prahran Market and other Melbourne attractions into our Melbourne journey planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Prahran Market is definitely for foodies. I visited here with a friend and we ate at Rivergum Grill. It was fantastic salad and grill! So many options and very clearly labelled for food allergies...

  • What can I say about this place, came here right from the start (September 2012) up until the end (January 2020) of my last job. Really nice clean market, with a lot of nice hard working traders that brought a lot of stock off me. This place was part of the start of what gave me A LOT of respect for small business, spent many a Friday here delivering a lot of stock. There's not a lot I miss about the job itself, it had been good but it was time to go. However, if there is one thing I slightly miss, it's seeing all the smiling faces of all those traders who I used to deliver to. That was what made me feel good about what I did, and I thank each and every one of them them for it. My best to the traders and owners of the market, thank you for being a part of that job of which I enjoyed oh so much.
  • Has to be one of the nicest markets in Australian. The seafood hall specially has a freshness and character in its operation. Of a 4.45 on Sunday you are treated with one of the impossible things to take place at Prahran markets, the 50-90% discounting of the stock we are yet to buy, and the Italian boys are vicious, and they get into fights for the best bits. It's just a 5 out of 5 for the old market and it will only improve over the next few months as it is renovated.
