Climb 2.5 km (1.4 miles) up The Pinnacle and you will be rewarded at the top with a feeling of accomplishment and a spectacular view overlooking the Grampians district. Choose between two routes based on your preferred level of difficulty. The Wonderland route is more strenuous with a continuous ascent via pathways and inclined steps; it involves some rock hopping and walking through a narrow gap in Silent Street. The Sundial route is much flatter with a less steep incline. Follow the yellow arrows to the top. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Halls Gap holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the The Pinnacle and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Physically challenge for unfit people like me (even from Sundial carpark). The climb was strenuous for knees, hips and back. The view at the top is good but the narrow viewing platform had a queue...

  • The primary reason for visiting Grampians and if you don’t go you’re missing out! The hike is available for beginner and experienced hikers alike. You can drive up the mountain to a certain point to shorten the hike to 4.2km round trip or start at the bottom at Halls Gap for a 9.6km round trip hike. Parking is pretty hectic especially during long weekends so expect to park along the road like many others. The views at the top are amazing and there are fences to prevent you from falling. My advice is to actually avoid the fenced area as it’s hard to take photos with a crowd. The view you get around the top in less crowded areas is just as good!
  • A 'must do' walk if you're in the area, good shoes recommended because the rocks get slippery and take plenty of water. We walked it a fair bit quicker than the guidebooks so you could probably fit a second walk in on the same day if you're pushed for time. Definitely go from the Wonderland car park to see the silent lane (probably not the name but I forgot)! Enjoy!
