Maheno Ship Wreck is a must-stop along the 120 km (75 mi) beach of Fraser Island. It’s a photographer’s paradise and a painter's delight. See the SS Maheno half buried in the sand amid spectacular surroundings. The SS Maheno was an ocean liner belonging to the Union Company of New Zealand. On July 7, 1935, the ship was under tow, broken in Japan, when a cyclone broke her free from her tow ship and she ended up on the shores of Fraser Island. • Incredible piece of history. Go in the morning at low tide so you can see both sides of the ship. Can’t wait to go back again.

  • Shipwreck worth seeing after 80+ years of sea water pounding on it. Took some awesome photos as a wonderful memory of what it might have been like all that time ago.
