Drop by Yarns Artwork in Silk to see a four-panel quilted depiction of the Meander Valley, seen through all four seasons. Each of the four impressive panels took over 2,500 hours to complete, with the entire project taking more than three years to finish. Over 300 artists used traditional and modern techniques to dye, paint, quilt, weave, stitch, and embroider this one-of-a-kind work of art. Housed inside a purpose-built auditorium, the 3D installation forms the centerpiece of this popular tourist site. Stop by to learn about the area’s rich history, landscape, and culture. The display includes an audio-visual presentation explaining the artwork and its significance. Before you visit Deloraine, use our trip planner to discover what you can do and see there.

Housed within the Deloraine Tourist Information Centre, the "Yarns Artwork" was a surprisingly interesting exhibit in a professional, theatre-like facility. I wasn't initially keen on having a look but still found it worthwhile and a great community effort in getting it all together. Basically, it's a tapestry depicting history and life in the town but deserves closer examination because of the detail included. After the 15-20 min "show" you can get an up close view and then also wander through the quite extensive collection of local history which is housed in the adjacent old hotel and also through the grounds. There was a small charge, I think about $8 per person or thereabouts.

Well worth a visit, great silk mural depicting Deloraine, exquisite needlework. Loved the museum & outside displays of old buildings & farm machinery! One of the best Information centres in Tasmania.
