Ever wondered what it's like to be a miner in a gold rush? Sovereign Hill recreates the experience for you. This open-air museum in Golden Point presents the area as it was after prospectors discovered gold there in 1851. As you stroll down Main Street, stop into the historically rendered metal workshops, schools, apothecary, bank, saloon, and post office and speak with historical interpreters dressed as townsfolk and prospectors from long ago. Tents and buildings invoking this past era surround the creek, where you can pan for real gold. See how to melt gold into bullion bars at the Gold Pour. You might even strike it rich, paying for your entire vacation! Put Sovereign Hill and other Ballarat attractions into our Ballarat trip planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

Great set of attractions and worth spending the whole day there. Photography was sold out on arrival at 10.30 so book it early. Staff working there are always in character which is impressive, compared to other local attractions. Do the mine tours first (some extra cost) and that will free you up to walk around casually after. Horse ride also available although you queue longer than the actual horse ride which only does one small circle lap around the centre part. Should be around the whole place for the price they charge. Food is okay although not enough hot food shops. Queues for food stands were too long. Winter Wonderland was worth it and very professional. Aura was amazing at night time and worth the extra cost. It's up there with some international shows. Overall great day out

Amazing day, very informative, loved how people were in period dress. Great way to learn about the Gold Rush here. We came back for the Winter Wonderland. Oh my what a spectacular event. Came down from Queensland and was well worth it! Congratulations to Sovereign Hill, brilliant effort! We planned for Gold, went down the mine, brilliant experience!
