Oasis Bay Party Cruise - Halong Bay reviews
I'm a solo traveler that was on a 3 month trip around SEA and this was one of the highlights of my trip. We had 42 people on the cruise and with Crazy K and Patrick hosting it, the entire trip was... more »
For a 'backpacker' cruise, Oasis Bay absolutely overdelivers. The boat is one of the biggest in Halong Bay, equipped with hot tubs, a hilarious inflatable trampoline, multiple bars and a live DJ... more »
Amazing boat, amazing staff! Must go with these guys for the best way to see the bay...so much fun!!! The hosts really made sure you were enjoying yourself the whole time. While the guides were really informative during the kayaking trip. and we LOVED the beer yoga, thanks so much for such a fun experience
Holy ship, that was fun! Capping off several weeks in Vietnam was the grand finale – Ha Long Bay. I wanted to be sure to make the right choice in whichever boat cruise I booked, as I'd heard so many differing accounts based on the type of cruise, point of origin and operating company. The ride from Hanoi was smooth on the tour bus, making a pit stop at the obligatory in-cahoots-with-the-operator roadside vendor (I found this to be typical of most organized tours in Vietnam). After what felt like a longer than necessary wait, we were back on the road and shortly after made it to the marina where we waited to board a smaller vessel to take us to our home for the next 24 hrs (some tours advertise 2 days, when it's really 24 hrs on the boat, but Oasis bills it as 2 day, 1 night). Once aboard the enormous ‘Romantic Sail 02’, we were greeted with a high-energy welcome with music blaring and given a complimentary drink on arrival. The size of our group felt a bit smaller than usual as was evident by the empty rooms – but was a good mix of people nevertheless. After we were assigned our rooms we met at the main area for brunch. While the food on the boat wasn't necessarily anything to write home about, it was always fresh, clean and very tasty, with portions large enough to never go hungry. After this, we hit the water and did a group kayak tour to a secluded section of the bay. I'd been warned of garbage and pollution in Ha Long Bay, but where we were there was none to be seen. It was as pristine and well managed as I could have hoped. Our guide Phát was a bloody legend and led a Vietnamese cheers chorus to crack some celebratory beers to once we'd reached our destination, then shared some interesting mythology behind Ha Long Bay in between ciggies. Once back at the boat we got things kicked off with some swimming and jumping into the water off of the boat which got increasingly higher and more death defying. Then it was hot tub time for a little beer and relaxation to get loose for beer yoga on the top deck. As the sun set strikingly across the horizon and behind the island formations, we were expertly instructed on how to drink beer from a straw while holding a Zen-like pose while trying not to fall onto the person next to you. After working up a nice buzz and a healthy appetite we were served a banquet of tasty Vietnamese dishes that were designed to safely please all Western palates. Once again, it was hot tub time and there seemed to be no shortage of them on every side of the cruise ship. But the party really got started with a Vietnamese boy band performance by the young cabin crew and tour leader. From here, a DJ had the dance floor grooving all night as drinks flowed from the bar. Libations were paid for by a wristband and taken care of the following morning at check-out. I must also specify that this was Tết, or Vietnamese Lunar New Year, which is the most important celebration in their culture. So beyond the call for extra special celebration, we were all thankful for the staff spending time away from their families to ensure we have the best time possible. The morning was a bit of a ghost town as early-risers were few and far between. I made it up with a couple of my cabin compatriots for a nourishing breakfast and hydration. At this point, those spending the extra night were shuttled off to the island for a day of hiking and exploration while the rest of us waited seemingly forever to return to the mainland as a new vessel of punters arrived for what was in-store that night. The trip back was as surreal and stunning as it was coming in, observing the emerald green waters with limestone monoliths emerging from beneath as the sun rose over the clouds and the other boats made their way throughout the bay. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect ending to a memorable trip in Vietnam. Additional thanks to the deck hand who found my power bank and brought it onto the bus, you’re a lifesaver!
