Traverse Hai Van Pass, a 21 km (13 mi) long scenic route boasting vistas over lush misty hills, green valleys, and beach lagoons, some of which you might recognize from the Top Gear series. Along the way, see the small fishing village of Lang Co, a former leper colony and now a developed tourist destination. Stop to check out the old military bunkers, where you can also refresh with snacks, drinks, and exotic fruits. Don’t be surprised to see newly married couples climbing the ruins--couples often come to celebrate with photos overlooking the scene of foaming waves and sandy beaches. Plan your visit to Hai Van Pass and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Phu Tho trip planner.

On a clear day this is a beautiful place to come see the view. The ride down the other side is also a very nice experience just silently rolling for km after km. The top itself is almost always crowded with tourists by the hundreds coming on buses from all over. If you can, then go from Danang early morning to catch the sunrise before the tourists arrive. Bring your camera!

I’m sure it’s beautiful but you have to get there the right time of the year, I had a friend go on the pass a week before I did and took some amazing photos, I went and couldn’t even recognize the place. It was pouring rain, and I was freezing cold and I wanted nothing more than to get to the hostel as quick as I could. I was soaked to the bone and we started to enter a cloud so it got very foggy. I can’t say I would recommend from my experience but it would be a blast to ride on if you have a bike and it’s dry but in wet conditions it’s miserable. Passing semis when it’s slick and foggy like that, you feel like you’re risking your life every time.
