War Remnants Museum delivers a somber account of the horrors of the Vietnam War and other wars of colonialist aggression that have plagued the Vietnamese people. The museum's exhibits may contain a heavy dose of one-sided anti-American sentiment, but they well represent residual American--and other foreign--weaponry and the destruction it wreaked. Look for the French guillotine used to execute prisoners and for the unexploded ordnance stored in a corner of the yard. It was a day spent with colleagues/friends at this museum and I was impressed to see and learn so much about this period of history. There were strong imagines but sadly all real. Is a must see... more »

Spent several hours here and found it both confronting and educational. Coming from Australia who fought on the side of the south in the Vietnam war, it was a reminder that there was a powerful local perspective and impact of this war and so many reasons why it has had such a lasting impact on the country. While strongly representing the story of the north, the people in the museum are respectful of all backgrounds including the US and simply want the story to be told as an important lesson to all generations. Sections on war crimes, the Agent Orange exfoliation, remarkable photographs from amazing and courageous photographers who documented the war, and the impact across successive generations are all on display here. A must visit.

This museum is intense. I didn’t expect the museum to be so graphic, and I had to take breaks every 30 minutes. Highly recommended. I’m born and raised in America, but of Vietnamese heritage. It was worth it to see the war from a different perspective than what I was taught in school
