Erected on the spot from which the legendary Vietnamese leader proclaimed the country's independence, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum serves as the final resting place of the leader's mummified body. Although the beloved "Uncle Ho" wished to be cremated, his followers decided to put his embalmed remains in a glass case. Today, his pale body lies exposed to the views of devoted pilgrims and curious tourists moving slowly in endless rows during most of the year--except for a period when it gets sent to Russia for conservation. The building--inspired by the Lenin's mausoleum in Moscow--was erected in the early 1970s. Inquire about proper etiquette before you enter--keep your hands out of your pockets, do not hold up the line, and don't attempt to take photographs. One should dress properly without revealing much body parts. Legs and shoulders should be covered properly. In addition, this places is guarded 24 hrs and visiting here requires to follow the guidelines strictly. It is a special place in Vietnam as the body of their late popular leader Ho Chi Minh is preserved there. So visiting there is considered as paying tribute to the leader.
A striking large Mausoleum built in a Russian Style. Sitting on the edge of the large parade Square. Very Interesting regardless of your political views. Just as a sight to see from outside it is good. You must pass through a security check point to get into the parade Square. Only open in the mornings (except Monday & Friday) for 2-3 hours from 0730.
