Cave · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Trained guides take you on a tour of the largest Lava Ice Cave known, and describe and explain the geologic, volcanic and historic background of this recreational area.

You descend gradually on a smooth path and then stairs to a depth of 100 feet under the lava into a world of volcanic wonder and ice. The Cave is about 1700 feet long, 50 feet wide and 45 feet in height. Elevation is at about 4500 feet. It is well-lit with LED lighting so one may see all the points of interest and much more!

On the grounds we offer a gift shop, free rock/artifact museum, picnic area, our famous 30-foot-high, 10-ton statue of Chief Washakie; noted Chief of the Shoshone Tribe, and our very large green dinosaur; Dino, which has become a local icon. We also have lots of various rocks for sale outside, as well as other statues to see and take pictures with.

  • We found this little gem, by just driving by. The young man who gave us our tour, really knew he's information and made it a great time. We'll be talking about this to friends.  more »

  • Have passed the Shoshone ice caves many times - always in the winter. Now that we were able to be here in summer, we seized the opportunity. Had a wonderful young tour guide to tell us about the history of the volcano, lava tubes, and ice. Fascinating! Easy climb both ways. Bring a sweatshirt for max enjoyment.
  • Couldn't give away all the beauty of this place- you have to come check it out for yourself. Although some areas were a bit difficult on the knees...it is possible!!!! Worth the drive & time...many thanks to our young guide he was awesome.
