Punalu‘U Beach, Pahala

#3 of 42 in Beaches in Island of Hawaii
Must see · Beach · State Park
The attraction at Punalu‘U Beach is not beach itself but what it's made of--jet black sand formed from nearby volcanic activity. Framed by coconut palms, the beach provides a place for picnicking with restrooms provided. Watch for green sea turtles swimming near the rocks, however, you may want to refrain from swimming here--it is not recommended because of the cold water and rocky shores. The area is also known for strong currents. Arrange your visit to Punalu‘U Beach and discover more family-friendly attractions in Pahala using our Pahala tour builder.
