A gift of friendship from the people of France, Statue of Liberty National Monument long represented the first glimpse of the United States for thousands of immigrants arriving across the Atlantic Ocean from distant lands. The 93 m (305 ft) statue's large pedestal includes an interior exhibit explaining the significance of this icon of liberty and democracy. Designed by sculptor F.A. Bartholdi and dedicated in 1886, the statue represents the Roman goddess of freedom holding a torch and a tablet of laws. It's essential to book tickets in advance. "Pedestal" tickets give you access the inside of the pedestal, the museum, and the Fort Wood level. Reservations to visit the crown can fill up to six months in advance. Ferries depart from Battery Park, New York or Liberty State Park, New Jersey. Check the ferry schedules and leave plenty of time for the security screenings. A bit pricey but definitively worth it. Very long lines to get in and even longer to book a ticket. Try the Ellis Island Museum, its very nice too. more »

I am an immigrant and what they say an 'in between' since I can speak my native tongue and English. The exhibit on not fitting in either world speaks volumes to me and I'm glad I am not the only one..... more »

This was definitely a bucket list item for me and my visit did not disappoint! We were met, promptly at Battery Park, by our diminutive tour guide, Sheree, who sported a bright pink ball cap, which came in very handy to spot her as she guided us through the crowds. One of the crew members told me that the boat has a capacity to carry 800 passengers which was mind blowing to me. As we approached Liberty island and got closer to the statue the atmosphere became hushed as we collectively embraced her aura. The process of getting us on and off the boat was surprisingly orderly considering the number of people. Our guide took us through the process and was extremely informative. I was very impressed with her wealth of knowledge. I asked and she said she had been doing this for many years. She is SKILLED! She got on the ground to take pictures for us so that we could have the Statue in the background! Now that is great customer service! Thank you, Sheree! I highly recommend this tour and encourage you to go on to Ellis Island also.

So glad to have finally gotten to experience the iconic Statue of Liberty! The views are breathtaking. Getting to see this has always been a dream of mine. I bought the tickets to go into the base, which was definitely a great experience! I would definitely recommend anyone visiting to buy the tickets either to go into the base, or even the crown. The inside of the statue is a very unique experience. Staff that I encountered were all very friendly. Definitely a great place to see at least once in your life.
