Great free museum. You can probably skip the train ride which is just a loop around the yard with not particularly good views. (Southern railroad at Griffith Park is a much more enjoyable ride. Visit here for sure, but if you’re waffling about which train to ride, pick that one.) The old engines are great and fun to see. Wish you could enter a higher percentage of the old engines and cars because that’s definitely the highlight of this place.

This is a good attempt to preserve and present a part of the West’s train heritage. It’s relatively a small place with a few train collections but the grounds which are ample enough to accommodate kids on a field trip compensate for it. If you’ve been to the Sacramento Railroad museum, you might be disappointed between the disparity of the exhibits - but hey, this place offers free visits so give it some credit. I recommend this to kids especially if you’re around the Griffith Park area, check it out, bring some snacks and have fun!
