Tunnels Beach, Wainiha

#5 of 36 in Beaches in Kauai
Beach · Nature / Park
Views of canyons and lush green maquis sculpt the backdrop at Tunnels Beach. The crescent-shaped beach and its large reef provide an excellent spot for diving and snorkeling, as the reef creates a barrier from the strong currents arriving from the north shore. Admire the jagged canyons and deep valleys eroded over time due to heavy rainfall. The volcanic formation of the island, visible through the underwater caverns formed from lava tubes, makes the beach an ideal snorkeling spot. Surfers can also benefit from the impressive waves beyond the reef. Try scuba diving and explore the inner and outer coral reefs, home to immense marine life, including sea turtles.
