Magic Sands, Kailua-Kona

#2 of 10 in Beaches in Kailua-Kona
Beach · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
One of the few white-sand beaches on the island, Magic Sands is the local name for LaŹ»aloa Beach County Park. The official name means "very sacred" in the local dialect. The ruins of an ancient Hawaiian temple are just south of the beach. However, it isn't spirits that give the beach its nickname; it's the disappearing sand that is sometimes washed away in storms to reveal black volcanic rock. Strong waves just off shore make the beach a popular spot for experienced surfers. Find out how to plan Kailua-Kona trip without stress by asking Inspirock to help create an itinerary.
