  • We saw turtles in the water here. I recommend driving to the southern side and parking and walking just 5 minutes. It was very beautiful and lots of people hanging out at the beach.  more »

  • To reach the pretty beach with the thatched shelter and sea turtles, you should park at the bay for a shorter walk. Or do a 0.7 mile hike from the visitor center to see all the cool plants along the way. You can walk along the shore for quite a ways. It is mostly rocky tidepools. If hiking the dry lava section, be prepared for high heat and rough terrain.
  • There are great, giving employees that work to insure you are able to get the most out of your visit. Billy even checked on a weaving class and called us later to let us know about it. There are several options for hikes to the fish pond, fish trap and beach. Be sure to wear suitable shoes as my wife blew out a flip flop on the walk. The fish trap beach is wonderful with a protected swimming area with lots of fish and turtles. Poor visibility when we were there but great snorkel regardless. Closer access to the fish trap from the harbor south of the national park building location.
