Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park reviews
We were grateful that the park was open during Covid and enjoyed walking thru the grounds. The kids did the Junior Ranger program and earned their badges while here. There are no cultural activities..... more »
We drove over an hour to get here based on the beautiful photos and reviews. It was $20 for our car. We were disappointed. The only sights were the huts and tiki pictured. The park map was unclear..... more »
Ample parking. Short, interesting walk around the ancient royal grounds. Right on the ocean and beautiful bay. A reasonable place to get a bit of culture. Also has a separate picnic grounds right on the water under coconut trees. Not worth the trip to drive all the way from the city. But it's next door to fantastic Two Steps snorkeling. Snorkeling was the primary attraction. Afterward, we went next door to this Park to have a picnic.
If you are in Hawaii to learn about their culture this is a good place for a lesson. They gave talks tell of the history and Heritage of the center. The trails through the center are flat and easy to walk with markers and a map explaining their meaning. The walk is very warm and you should bring water. There is a small but cute gift shop. The bathrooms are clean with running water.
