Rainbow Falls, Hilo

#2 of 23 in Parks in Hilo
Waterfall · Nature / Park
Visit Wiluku River State Park to witness Rainbow Falls, the 24 m (80 ft) waterfalls famous for the magnificent rainbows that shine through their mist. These falls, know to locals by their Hawaiian name, Waianuenue, rush down over a lava cave, which is considered to be the home of the ancient Hawaiian goddess Hina. At the foot of the falls, wild ginger and monstera plants surround a large pool. Naturally, the rainbows are especially strong after a rainstorm. See Rainbow Falls and all Hilo has to offer by arranging your trip with our Hilo trip maker.

  • You can see the falls quite well from the bridge area. Those who want more or a different view that's there too, but requires some effort and technically isn't open in COVID closure times.  more »

  • Easily accessible. Parking wasn't an issue and there is no hike to the falls. Recommended for a quick and easy visit to one of the many water falls in the area
  • It is a pretty waterfall. You can drive very close to it and do not have to hike to see it. You can go up the stairs toward the top and see huge banyan trees. The sound of the waterfall is very serene.
