You'll find four permanent exhibits of artifacts at Yorkshire Museum. The archaeology exhibit houses a collection of nearly one million objects, ranging from prehistoric times to the 20th century. Among them, spot the York helmet, the Gilling sword, and a head of preserved Roman hair. In the astronomy exhibit, visit the 19th-century observatory and a clock that tells the time based on the position of constellations. A biology exhibit displays preserved specimens of animals, plants, and fungi, including specimens of extinct species, such as the passenger pigeon and the Moa. Marvel at the collection of minerals, rocks, and fossils in the geology exhibit. Outside, wander through the museum gardens. Plan my trip to York with suggested itineraries provided by Inspirock.

Much bigger inside than I imagined. So much to take in at a relaxed pace. In a beautiful part of York's park. The displays and artfacts were amazing, informative and just wonderful to see.

I'm sorry to say this was a bit of a let-down. To charge entry for a museum in the UK, it had better be incredible--sadly, this was not. The best things here are a skeleton of an icthysaurus or something similar, but it's behind glass, and meteor that's about as big as a basketball (we walked past it at first and had to ask an employee for its whereabouts). The exterior grounds with the abbey ruins and neighboring park are quite nice, and I'm sorry to put down a museum like this, but somebody needs to re-think the admission fee. Plus there's one or two other museums right next to it, and there's no signage leading toward the entrance.
