    In February the grounds, although tidy, were not very picturesque. There is a small fountain and it had some pretty Spring primulas flowering just after you walk over the small culvert. It is framed.....  more »

    It may seem odd to recommend visiting a war memorial, of all things, given that many people couldn't care much less for the fallen, but it's hard to not be drawn to it, particularly on busy days. Notably the memorial attracts amateur musicians of many genres, including jazz, classical, and folk, and between the saxophones, keyboards, guitars, and whatever else entertainers bring with them, it is rare to hear the same type of music two days or even two hours in a row. The memorial attracts many students studying in Oxford, those who have shopped until they have dropped at the Westgate or Clarendon centres only stones throw's away, or those looking to relax in the shaded, cleaner part of the city centre, so there is a brilliant atmosphere at most times of the day. Definitely somewhere to visit, for patriots or not.
