Trip Planner: Europe / UK / England / Oxfordshire / Oxford / Oxford University Museum of Natural History
Those who know it best call Oxford University Museum of Natural History the world’s “Cathedral to Science.” From the most complete remains of the extinct dodo to exacting replicas of early humans, the museum works to share the best examples of geology, mineralogy, zoology, and entomology—or rocks, minerals, animals, and bugs to the thousands, especially children, who visit. The building itself is a fine example of neo-Gothic architecture and is the site of the famous first demonstration of the wireless telegraph in 1894. Have a natural object you can’t quite identify? Bring it along and ask one of the many on-hand curators to help solve the mystery. Looked around with some colleagues who are visiting from China, well laid out, busy but still enough room for us to stand at exhibits. Next visit I will do more advanced planning and try and find guides in my guests language. Thank you from us all for an amazing hour spent on a sunny day
Fabulous museum for young and old! My 5.5 yr old and 22month old both absolutely loved it and were very excited to be able to touch and interact with lots of exhibits. Lots to see and most cases low enough for even the smallest visitors to see. Especially good for any little dinosaur lovers! Daddy enjoyed the Pitt Rivers Museum in the same building but the smalls were not that keen. Probably better for 7+. Well worth a visit and a bargain at a suggested donation of £5!
