Cutty Sark, London

#13 of 262 in Historic Sites in London
Specialty Museum · Hidden Gem · Ship
The last surviving tea clipper (cargo sailing ship designed for speed) built before the advent of steam-engine ships, Cutty Sark offers a colorful look at British maritime history. Walk aboard to learn the boat's story--and that of tea clippers in general--through interactive displays. Head down to the hold to see where the ship kept its cargo. If you get hungry, eat in the Even Keel Cafe. The soups, deli sandwiches, and chocolate fudge cake likely represent much finer fare than the ship's sailors enjoyed over a century ago. The lower hold is now a studio theater, so check the schedule if you want to see a performance in this unique venue. Buy admission tickets for the ship online before your visit, because tickets at the entrance sometimes sell out. • Really interesting. Great for kids. Takes about an hour to get round (depending on how fast you go!) Displays are really interactive and engaging. Lots of hands on things to do. Kids trail was good. Nice cafe underneath the hull of the ship. Staff are really friendly. Good well stocked shop. Definitely worth a visit if your in London.
  • Well preserved famous old ship which made a name for itself by crossing the oceans in record time. Lots of info and exhibits displayed to give the visitor a taste of the maritime life back in the day. Very informative guides on board. Roam around and explore!
