Castle · Historic Site
Built by William the Conqueror on the site of a pre-existing Roman fortress, Lincoln Castle is noted for being the home of one of only four Magna Carta originals still in existence. Take a free guided tour of the site to explore over 900 years of dramatic historical events that took place in and around the castle and its grounds. Long used as a prison, the castle includes a rare example of a chapel designed for the so-called "separate system," meant to keep each prisoner in constant isolation. The chapel, with every seat separately enclosed, is the only one of its kind left in the world today. Be sure to check the castle’s calendar for an accurate list of upcoming events and available attractions. • Magnificent old building adjacent to the Cathedral, (which is currently under going restoration work). Castle offers outstanding views of the surrounding countryside from the walls which can be walked around. City itself is on a par with York and Norwich. Great place to visit.
  • Beautiful grounds really well looked after the place is immaculate. Plenty of seating to relax and take it all in. Admission free to the grounds if you just fancy a wander around and relax. Nice cafe and a good gift shop. Hard to believe your in a city. Well worth a visit.
