The Mackintosh House, Glasgow

4.6
#4 of 33 in Historic Sites in Glasgow
Historic Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Part of the Hunterian Art Gallery, The Mackintosh House recreates the interior of the house of Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928). The original house was completely destroyed to make room for the expanding Glasgow University. However, the University later went to great lengths to re-create the house using modern materials. The house features original woodwork from Mackintosh’s home as well as carefully reassembled interiors, which exemplify Macintosh’s austere style. To visit, you must take a guided tour available every thirty minutes. Find out how to plan Glasgow trip without stress by asking Inspirock to help create an itinerary.

  • Room settings faithful to Mackintosh's original house which this replaced, jut by the University so can also visit there and the Hunterian in one half-day.  more »
  • Located within the Hunterian Art Gallery this is a wonderful reconstruction of the MacIntosh's terrace house, with much original furniture. Very attractive and very well done.  more »
