One of the most visited spots in the area, Tarn Hows consists of three lakes joined together in the 19th century in order to supply water to a local sawmill. During the height of the tourist season, the area gets packed with visitors who come here to enjoy the views of the Helvellyn Range and the Langdale Pikes. A series of trails lead through thick woodlands, noted for a wide variety of native plants and animals. You can walk or cycle along a path encircling the tarn, or use this spot as the beginning of your adventure further into the Lake District.   • Been here many times before but we decided to walk from Coniston Village this time and its well worth the walk rewarded at the end with the fantastic views of Tarn Hows.  more »
