Fort Amherst, in Medway, South East England, was constructed in 1756 at the southern end of the Brompton lines of defence to protect the southeastern approaches to Chatham Dockyard and the River Medway against a French invasion. Fort Amherst is now open as a visitor attraction throughout the year with tours provided through the tunnel complex.

    A great place to visit. Free parking and admission to outside areas. Nicely laid out picnic areas. We took a tour of the caves, at a very reasonable £6 each. Niel, our guide, was great. Really knows....  more »

    We had a great experience today myself, partner and Our boy Stephen. Vic aka Derek 😂 was our tour guide and he was absolutely fantastic. He gave us the history in a unique fashion. He was great with the kids? Involved them at all times and made a fun and informative journey through time. Thanks Vic ❤️ We lived every minute 😉😉

    Wonderful experience and excellent services to see how a Fort used to work and run. Great volunteers. Wonderful staff. Very helpful with the how things operate and work. Lovely to see them still recovering and restoration works still going on. I can't wait to go back to see it again. Lovely place and lovely to see magic happen.
