The Model Village, Bourton-on-the-Water

#3 of 25 in Things to do in Bourton-on-the-Water
Landmark · Tourist Spot
The Model Village is a one-ninth-scale replica of the Cotswold village of Bourton-on-the-Water, officially opened in 1937. Its remarkable detail took local craftsmen five years to create. The model represents how the town looked in the 30's and provides an interesting glimpse into the past. Examine the details of the village and discover its quirks and delights. Stand close to the town’s churches to hear the choir singing. Be sure to look out for the model of the Model Village itself. For a small surcharge you can also visit the Miniature World exhibition of highly detailed miniature scenes and room sets, including several moving miniature characters. The creation of this exhibition involved over 100 of England’s leading miniaturist craftsmen and women. • It's such a shame this attraction has been around for nearly a 100 years and is so much part of a visit to the village and know doubt in the height of the season has a high amount of visitors pass...  more »
  • Worth a visit, obviously a lot of work home in to the upkeep and accuracy of the model village. Love the church and miniature village in the miniature village. Good idea to have hand stamped at end so could come back again if want to.
  • The model village exhibits a lovely model of the Bourton-on-the-water town centre. Personally I didn't find much to see there; a maximum of 15 visiting minutes excluding time for photo shooting I would suggest. However, one can definitely appreciate the craftsmanship. Every model is up to a good level of details and flora are well selected and placed to enrich the environment. A small entry fee is in place but it is well worthy.
