Of the Pagan Neolithic henge monuments, such as Stonehenge, Avebury Stone Circle has the largest circle. It is still a place of religious importance to modern day Pagans, as well as a popular destination for tourists. The stone circles were constructed around 2600 BCE, but not all at the same time. Archaeologists believe that the circles were built slowly over the years, but there's no agreement as to their use. The National Trust manages the site and has been careful about maintaining its integrity by prohibiting development that would commercialize the attraction. However, you'll find two shops in the nearby village that sell gifts and hand out information: one is the National Trust's own shop, the other is a New Age shop that sells items related to the spirituality of the stone circles. • If you can get a quieter day this wonderful rind is incredibly serene and calming. Do not miss Elements with its fabulous array of crystals and the funky new age items.  more »
  • Avebury is brilliant makes Stonehenge look second class. Good pub and eateries in the village. The only drawback is that the National Trust charge £7 for the car park no matter how long you stay...  more »

  • Must visit UNESCO heritage site close to Stonehenge.
  • Beautiful place to go with the kids and the dog. The local town is amazing and the people are so friendly. Its am amazing spectacle that both me and my 8year old are still trying to figure out how the stones got there. Just be sure to use the visitor parking as its suck a small town they have a tiny car park for the locals to access there shops. They do have a huge parking facility was reasonably priced. Check out the little local shops honestly you wont be disappointed.
